From the ZBGIS MapServer's 92 layers (the R6 full published class list):

water_bodies ← 73 Vodná plocha (NAM, USE, DOW) and
74 Plocha vodného toku
waterways ← 35 Vodný tok (NAM, HYC hydrological category, TUC,
HOC)
water_points ← 10 Prameň (springs — Slovakia has a great many mineral
springs), 19 Vodopád (waterfalls — the High Tatras), 15 Studňa (wells; decide
whether wells belong in this layer at all)
places ← 100 Štandardizovaný názov with NAM and CAT (the
category that is the rank signal), plus 98 Historický názov and 99 Variantný názov

The decoy to avoid

zbgis_geograficke_nazvoslovie_wfs:geograficky_nazov looks like the places layer —
136 380 points, anonymous WFS, working today. It is not. DescribeFeatureType exposes
only ZBGIS_ID, Existencia_objektu and geometry; the name appears only as
DISPLAY_EXPRESSION, an ArcGIS display alias rather than a schema field, and there is
no name-type or category attribute at all. 136 380 unclassified points with no rank
signal is not a places layer. Use MapServer layer 100.

Alternates worth checking if #226 goes badly

VÚVH (the water research institute) serves ArcGIS WFS at
https://geoserver.vuvh.sk/arcgis/services/NIPI/… (verified live —
PovodiaVodarenskychTokov, watercourse basins). Its WFD water-body layers were not
enumerated. SHMÚ (geo.shmu.sk/geoserver/…) also publishes hydrography.

Population for the places rank ladder would come from ŠÚ SR joined to ZBGIS
obec — the key was not established. Establish it or rank on CAT alone and say
so.
