Gated on #211 and #218. All from the anonymous Klimadatastyrelsen INSPIRE route
(https://api.dataforsyningen.dk/ogcapi/features/…), CC BY 4.0, verified live
2026-08-24.

  • water_bodies ← hy_inspire/standingwater_wms_soe, 187 097 lake polygons,
localtype = Sø, surfacearea, elevation, tidal. Unnamed —
name_nilreason = other:unpopulated on the sampled feature. Names need a join to
gn_inspire/namedplace. State that up front: an unnamed water layer is a rendering
    decision, not a bug.
  • waterways ← hy_inspire/watercourselink, 938 605 links, with
    flowdirection
(inDirection on the sample) — a directed network, the
friendliest possible input to the Strahler derivation the project has seen. Note
fictitious is true on the first sampled feature: connector links must be
filtered, or kept deliberately for connectivity, and the choice argued next to the query.
938 605 links for a country Denmark's size is a lot of drainage channel — expect to need
a size or importance filter for the zoom cascade.
  • wetland (26 045, localtype = vådområde) is available if the cover mapping
    wants it.
  • places ← gn_inspire/namedplace, 144 725 names, source
    Danske Stednavne, with name_gn_namestatus = official, name_gn_language,
and localtype / type as the classification. The geometry is mixed —
the sampled feature is a LineString for a bridge (localtype = vejbro,
type = transportNetwork) — so the layer must be filtered to settlement types before it
    can be places.

Two open questions this issue has to answer

  1. Population for the rank ladder. namedplace has none. Danmarks Statistik's
urban-area (BY*) tables are the candidate, and the join key was not established.
If there is no clean key, rank on localtype alone and say so.
  2. water_points. hy_inspire has seven collections (embankment,
    landwaterboundary, shorelineconstruction, standingwater_wms_afvandgroeft,
standingwater_wms_soe, watercourselink, wetland) and no spring, rapid or
    waterfall class
. Denmark is flat and this is plausibly a genuine absence — but R6 says
check the provider's full class list, and GeoDanmark's own object catalogue has not
    been checked
. Do that before writing the absence down (the Poland OIKM_P lesson,
    #64).
Gated on #211 and #218. All from the **anonymous** Klimadatastyrelsen INSPIRE route (`https://api.dataforsyningen.dk/ogcapi/features/…`), **CC BY 4.0**, verified live 2026-08-24. - **`water_bodies`** ← `hy_inspire/standingwater_wms_soe`, **187 097** lake polygons, `localtype = Sø`, `surfacearea`, `elevation`, `tidal`. **Unnamed** — `name_nilreason = other:unpopulated` on the sampled feature. Names need a join to `gn_inspire/namedplace`. State that up front: an unnamed water layer is a rendering decision, not a bug. - **`waterways`** ← `hy_inspire/watercourselink`, **938 605** links, **with `flowdirection`** (`inDirection` on the sample) — a *directed* network, the friendliest possible input to the Strahler derivation the project has seen. Note **`fictitious`** is `true` on the first sampled feature: connector links must be filtered, or kept deliberately for connectivity, and the choice argued next to the query. 938 605 links for a country Denmark's size is a lot of drainage channel — expect to need a size or importance filter for the zoom cascade. - **`wetland`** (26 045, `localtype = vådområde`) is available if the cover mapping wants it. - **`places`** ← `gn_inspire/namedplace`, **144 725** names, source **`Danske Stednavne`**, with `name_gn_namestatus = official`, `name_gn_language`, and **`localtype`** / **`type`** as the classification. **The geometry is mixed** — the sampled feature is a *LineString* for a bridge (`localtype = vejbro`, `type = transportNetwork`) — so the layer must be filtered to settlement types before it can be `places`. ## Two open questions this issue has to answer 1. **Population for the rank ladder.** `namedplace` has none.
